Distracted Driver Apps
There’s an app for everything…………including one for distracted drivers!
Distracted driving can include talking on cell phones, reading, using a navigation system, watching a video or adjusting a radio or CD player, texting is the most alarming however, because it requires visual, manual and cognitive attention by the driver.
While well over half of the United States have banned texting and driving, the laws are hard to enforce. We all know drivers who text and they are not limited to just younger drivers.
Listed below are some of the mobile apps that can help drivers keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel:
iZUP – “Eyes Up” holds incoming and outgoing calls, texts and emails while driving. For more information visit http://www.getizup.com/
Not While Driving – Using your cell phones GPS device, Not While Driving detects when your car is in motion. Your cell returns to a normal operating mode as soon as your vehicle stops. This application is only for BlackBerry. The app can be found in Blackberry AppWorld or by clicking on the link at http://store.jaredcompany.com/blackberry/
DriveSafe.ly – DriveSafe.ly allows you to listen to SMS, email or text messages while driving. See http://www.drivesafe.ly/

tXtBlocker – Blocks texting and speaking while a vehicle is moving. It sends an automatic “Driving” message to anyone who texts or calls. It works with most Android and BlackBerry devices. http://txtblocker.com/
Textecution – Allows you to use your phone normally but once it detects that the phone is traveling faster than 10 mph, the app disables the phone’s texting feature so text messages can’t be sent or received. The Texting feature is restored once the phone is at rest or traveling slower than 10 mph. www.textecution.com
